Honestly, Amalthea should have loved Shmendrick. They’d known each other longer and had much more chemistry, whereas Lir only knew Amalthea as a human and fell in love without knowing her. And, if anyone’s seen the movie  
Lir: Looks human! Amalthea up and down while she’s clothed  
Shmendrick: Poker face while she’s completely nakes (in human form)

He really did get the better one. Amalthea seemed to barely tolerate him. Celestia’s nothing like as full of herself despite how important she is.
