Probably the fastest way to refute the argument that “uranium is dangerous” is to point out where we get it to begin with - the ground.

And people live in homes on foundation with abundant amounts of uranium ore and live their lives without any problems. If there’s anything that’s concerning with uranium, it would be from the subsequent presence of Radon - a daughter of Uranium’s decay series, that could emit alpha particles whilst airborne. This is what Uranium miners protected themselves against when in the field.

Uranium is harmless. It has a very long half-life(over 4 billion years for U-238, the most common isotope) and emits primarily alpha radiation. Alpha radiation can be stopped by things like tissue paper or human skin.

Funnily enough, I actually bought some uranium ore a few weeks ago (my sister’s Christmas present) and was thinking of doing something like this. Probably just as well that this guy did it first though, since mine is only the size of a pebble.
