Well, to be fair, he does use some characters, and character designs he didn’t create like in the Zelda series, Star Fox, and such. (In fact, Takashi Tezuka helped designed some of the Mario characters to.)
Never understood why the Gameboy Mario series gets so ignored. Perhaps ‘cause the producer of them Gunpei Yokoi passed-away, and most of the people who worked on them, don’t work on Mario games much.
Miyamoto did work on a few Gameboy games though like Donkey Kong ’94, and Mole Mania. (Both great games BTW.)
That begs the question, what was doing at that time, but seriously though, it’d be interesting if Miyamoto decided to use character he didn’t create, and do something with them it’d very interesting to say the least.
I doubt it, considering we rarely see characters from the Gameboy Mario games in the main Miyamoto-made action games usually. (Considering Miyamoto wasn’t involved in the Super Mario Land & Wario Land games for Gameboy.) They usually only appear in the spin-offs.
Closest we got was Wario in “Super Mario 64 DS.”
Maybe Daisy got kidnapped instead XD, but seriously though, I don’t know.
Oh, that’s awesome.
I wonder what the “story” will be if Peach isn’t getting kidnapped though. (Likely a simple one, so don’t expect alot of cinama scenes. Not that Mario needs them.)
The best is, apparently, you can be any other character aside from Mario if you’re playing as just one person, which for me is very great. :)
While I loved “Super Mario 64,” the whole star collecting treasure hunt kinda dominated the gameplay, and didn’t feel much like a platformer like the older Mario games before it.
While I wouldn’t mind the open-world treasure-hunt gameplay style to come back, I like how newer 3D Mario games like the Galaxy games, and 3D Land/World games focus a bit more on platforming.
And yeah, it’s nice to finally have a multiplayer 3D Mario game. I was quite shocked Princess Peach was made playable to. So now we have all 4 characters from SMB2 back.
That is why I’m looking forward for Super Mario 3D World, because a Mario 3D multiplayer platformer is too awesome since I had my first Mario game when I was just 3 years old, but apparently people are complaining just because it’s not a spiritual succesor to Super Mario 64, (I prefer the DS version actually, seems a lot more fun), despite the fact that in a future we might have it….
The NewSMB series is good, but some feel they’re starting to get to much alike, (even rehashing the same graphics/levels until the WiiU version came out) and the physics/movements feel alot similar to SMB1, (some prefered how SMB3 or SMWorld played) so that may be a reason to. Also, you can only use Yoshi for the levels you find him on. (Which I suppose I can live with, he was awkward in some levels of SMWorld, like ones that required you to leave him behind so you can climb a vine to advance in the level.)
Still, it’s nice how they mix in some features from the 3D games, (like the wall-jump move, and some enemies from them) as well as some retro things from the old 2D games.
It’s nice we’re finally getting new Mario side-scrollers after a half a decade of getting only remakes on the GBAdvance, I feel.
Also, being able to play simultaneously with 4 players (instead of taking turns in 2-player mode like the old games) is awesome. Considering we had some NES & SNES games with this feature, (Like “Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers”) I’m amazed it took them this long to implement this feature in the Mario series.
NewSMB2 can be pretty fun if you ignore the glaring similarities with the previous titles, though I warn you that the shitload-of-coins thing isn’t as fun as you may think.
If you don’t care about that then, by all means, buy it.
I might get NewSMB2 just for the raccoon suit, and coin-collecting gimmick. Would anyone recommend it? (I have a 3DS, but no WiiU.)
