Ling was also a cheapskate who racked up a debt for Edward. Hardly a trait for Blueblood’s ego.

I have no interest in arguing who would be who in an FMA ponyverse. I just finished dealing with a shitstorm a few hours ago. I don’t believe Blueblood is a fit for ANY of the main or side characters. That is all, goodbye.

Even Yoki fought in FMA, against Pride no less. The comparison is that Olivia called Armstrong a “coward” from a very jaundiced point of view in-verse. It was seem as unfair from a meta perspective because Armstrong did fight and was traumatized by it, “excusing” is behavior (like breaking down and having flashbacks of Ishval).

Likewise, you are incorrect to say that Blueblood was threatened. There was no bodily harm, and Blueblood himself exclaims to the effect of “Wait, stop! I’ve just been groomed!” before Rarity hits him with the same cake-stuff he had hoped to avoid. This is more akin to Rupophobia - or a simple and common desire not to get filthy - than the sort of cowardice you’re describing where threat of bodily harm is a prerequisite.

Blueblood’s character traits are foppish “charmlessness” - this is different than practical cowardice of the sort you seem to be describing. Further, I recall a few characters in FMA used one another as human shields against one form of filth or another. Generally played for comedy.

Recall Ling, from FMA. He would very likely use someone as a cake-shield, too, and we know he isn’t a coward.

One of the defining character traits of Armstrong was the trauma of what he did in Ishval and how, in the eyes of some, like his sister Olivia, it made him a coward. No attempt should be made to divorce this from his character, anymore than being an inveterate hardass should be removed from Olivia’s character.

I would just say Blueblood doesn’t seem bombastic enough to be an Armstrong. Maybe more a Kimbly or Mustang, especially as the latter’s behavior around women who aren’t his life-partner-subordinate can be pretty atrocious.
