The equivalent relation would be if two Frenchmen today got married who were both related to Napoleon Bonaparte’s parents, but only one person in the marriage was related to Napoleon, the other was not. That’s how absurdly distant the two were.

Pinkie insisting on calling them “cousins” and being “related” is just Pinkie being Pinkie. And their difficulty in even confirming this in any records was too difficult and distant to confirm per written records.

No, that is too close. A fourth cousin twice removed is different. That is your great, great, great grandfather having two kids, and them starting families and having kids for five generation. As long as their is no inbreeding, the relation is very distant, about 0.5% genetic similarity. Now that is where the pie and apple relation STARTED, many, many generations later, and by the length of the scroll and the size of the text seen on the scroll, this was several centuries ago. As there is no point in the genealogy scroll where the family lines intersected again, and with a starting genetic similarity of 0.5%, there would be no actual genetic similarity left, making it no different for Marble Pie and Big Macintosh to bump uglies than two people randomly meeting on the street, as they have no remaining familial genetic similarity

That is how it works. Generations of families going in different directions with new genetics brought in lowers the genetic similarity to the point there is little to know shared genetic information.

It’s cause their relation is very distant. Generations ago someone in their family was a Pie that was a third cousin thrice removed, after generations they are only technically related, and probably less actually blood related than you and me

Say what you will about PetalStorm, but as spoken about in other comments, Misty x Zipp or Pipp has absolutely zero wrong with it. The degree of relatedness is practically zero genetically speaking. Haven and Alphie never officially tied the knot, even if there were leaks of wedding BGs, so canonically they’re still not together, and Misty still isn’t even a stepsibling. It’s only incest if you really squint hard and look for something to be mad at.

Dawnstorm was gaining some popularity until it was revealed that Misty was the daughter of Alphabittle, and it seems that fans of that ship disappeared when Hasbro released that chapter. I know that sometimes people themselves have their own ethical code and that’s fine, but idk it’s still very strange to come across new dawnstorm fanarts.
