Well, technically King Koopa is Bowser, (in fact in Japan Bowser is called just “Koopa”) he was refered to as Bowser in a few episodes. They just redesigned him for the show, ’cause at the time he had different designs in the official game artwork. (In fact, his cartoon appearance looks a bit similar to his appearance on the Japanese boxart of SMB.) Admittedly I did like his appearance & personality in the show.
I also liked the way the Bob-ombs looked, they looked a bit more menacing, and a bit more mechanical to.
@Mugen Kagemaru
The SMB Super Show was loosely based on the SMB & SMB2 games however, and featured characters from both so their appearances weren’t so surprising.
I actually liked some of the redesigns for the characters in that show.
@Mugen Kagemaru
Yeah, it’s like a Super Mario Bros. 2/USA reunion. (Toad’s even blue, like his original 8-bit sprite.) Now all it needs are some Shy Guys. (They don’t seem to appear in the main non-RPG Mario games much aside from the “Yoshi’s Island” series.)
Now all we need is Wart causing trouble in the dream world again.
Maybe they felt a red cat outfit looked odd for Mario? I also notice they’re using a blue toad, kinda like how Toad’s original sprite in SMB2 was more blue looking.
@Dr Outback
I actually don’t own the first game, but I have the sequal.
@Beau Skunky
Yeah Galaxy did have less ground to move around on their levels but they still had multiple objectives to complete. Galaxy also had a intuitive hub area that had extra challenge levels. I haven’t played the sequel but I know that the the first one was more open.
@Dr Outback
Wasn’t “Galaxy” also mostly a platformer though? SM64 & Sunshine were more like “open 3D areas.” While I prefer Mario to focus more on platforming, then searching for stars, I admit I wouldn’t mind having some open-world areas, and some exploration, and such.
I doubt we’ll see Daisy or Wart in the game, but it might be nice to see them someday. That one boss battle they showed looked oddly like a combination of Triclyde, and Wart, but I don’t think that was them.
@Background Pony
I don’t know I see elements from SMB3, SMWorld, and such personally. And having the 4 main characters from SMB2 playable seems like a nod to that game to. So I don’t really see much from SMB1. In fact, the goombas look like the “chestnut” ones from SMW.
I don’t mind the flagpoles, I think it’s nice they’re doing something other then the star collect-a-thons like every other 3D Mario game was. Even in the Super Mario Galaxy games, some of the stars you collected were just there to symbolize the end of the level. So star or flagpole, I don’t care.
Still, I admit, it would’ve been nice if they had a few more open-world-like areas like SM64/Sunshine perhaps, (that might be difficult to do with 4 players though) but we’ll see how it goes.
@Background Pony
That’s a bad thing? Maybe it’s Daisy this time that’s being captured? Maybe it’s not even Bowser and it’s actually Wart? (another nod to SMB2). I wouldn’t mind Daisy used in a main Mario game for a change.
New Super Mario Bros 6: 3D Land 2: Floaty Catgirl Peach Edition.
[sigh] While it’s still nice and it’ll be a good game, why is the only thing i’m getting out of this is the fact that Bowser’s probably just going to have someone other than Peach in his clutches and this is otherwise yet another retread? Where’s an ACTUAL new Mario game?
@Background Pony
Yeah, I liked Toad in SMB2 also, he not only picked up things fastest, but could also run the fastest. (Screw what the Irate Gamer said about him being “useless.”)
@Background Pony
Wonder what powers “Pony suits” could give you.
