Description
Here’s a poster I made during the early art development phase for the upcoming My Little Pony movie - the art book is out today!
The creature on the left is the Storm King, but in an original design.
Why you no icon scrub?XPYeah, the Storm King’s early design looks very similar to the wolves from Kung Fu Panda 2.
The movie also took place after the first twelve episodes of the Equestria Girls web series, CYOE season 1, and Forgotten Friendship and before the rest of season 1 (the last 15 episodes), Rollercoaster of Friendship, the first 13 episodes of season 2, and Spring Breakdown which were set before season 8.
Season 8 starts off a bit after the movie.
So pretty much the movie takes place after season 7.

Well, there were several early drafts of movie developments between 2014 and 2016. And they didn’t announced when will the movie takes place.
I mean like if they were making the movie since 2014 or so and given how season 8 was following up on that, they can easily explore more lore for Luna and Celestia, they had plenty of time to scope and set things up.
Well, the movie started in development in 2014. And they didn’t announced when will this movie be set in until possibly during season seven. That’s why we see Starlight Glimmer, Party Favor, Night Glider, Moon Dancer, Tree Hugger, Sassy Saddle, and Fashion Plate in film all present in Canterlot during the Friendship Festival and when the Storm King conquers Canterlot and then all of Equestria. And also, Flurry Heart was already born, the Cutie Mark Crusaders successfully get their cutie marks, the ponies of Starlight’s old village had their cutie marks back, Starlight was reformed, became Twilight’s pupil, reunite with her old friend Sunburst who moves to the Crystal Empire, became friends with Trixie, graduated in the season seven premiere, the Changeling Kingdom was defected from evil to good, Thorax overthrows Queen Chrysalis, Fire Streak retired from being a Wonderbolt while Rainbow Dash becomes a Wonderbolt, the Pillars of Equestria’s artifacts were discovered by the Mane Six and Sunburst, were freed from limbo and later re-imprisoned the Pony of Shadows and freed Stygian out of the shadow pony’s body, and the Pillars explored across Equestria to see what Equestria was like today than it was before. Yep. I’m not gonna lie to ya. The whole entire movie was set between seasons seven and eight. Coincidentally, it was also set after the first 12 episode of season 1 of the Equestria Girls web-series, CYOE season 1, and Forgotten Friendship and before the rest of season 1 (the last 15 episodes of season 1), RollerCoaster of Friendship, the first 13 episodes of season 2 of the Equestria Girls web-series, and Spring Breakdown which were all set before the season 8 premiere.
The movie was in development since 2014 or so I think, they can clearly add in more lore like that if they were working on the movie way before 2017 or so.
I agree, it sure would have been nice to know more about alicorns and it would have been the perfect opportunity, but the problem is that they had probably already decided that the show would be over soon so it was too late to include more lore and such an important character…
They should have stuck with the brother idea.
Not only it would give more lore to Luna and Celestia(and hopefully they won’t get taken out..).
I mean, if season 8 literally kicked off due to the movie, so I am sure they be fine with showing this new lore in the movie if they went with the brother idea.
If I remember correctly, in the book “The Art of My Little Pony: The Movie” it is said that originally, before inventing Tempest, they had designed another character which was an alicorn who was supposed to be the brother of Celestia and Luna, so in theory they should have played a bit more role in the plot of the movie than they did, but for some reason the writers suddenly changed their minds.

By role I mean an ACTUAL fucking role, not stuck as freaking statues for the entire movie as essentially plot mcguffins for the main bad guy to get after.
Luna and Celestia were handled poorly pretty much..

Well, too bad they didn’t. They’re just secondary/recurring/major/overarching characters of the G4 Franchise. I mean, isn’t this quite the combination of secondary characters? I mean, what could possibly go wrong?! But we know that Celestia and Luna did have a role in the movie attending the Friendship Festival in Canterlot, overthrown by the Storm King after Celestia warns Luna to seek help from Queen Novo but were petrified by Tempest Shadow, had their magic drained by the Storm King’s Staff of Sacanas, and later restored back to normal and had their magic back again after the Storm King died and all of the destruction caused by the Storm King, Tempest, Grubber, and the Storm Creatures were all restored back to normal again.
Edited
Also, that version of the Storm King would have been a lot more interesting than the Tirek knockoff we got.
