On a more serious note, Equestria girls is a film centred around Twilight Sparkle wandering around in an alternate dimension where everything is the same but different (The whole of Equestria compressed into a highschool) in an unfamiliar body. Of course things are going to be different. The people working on this show also work on FIM, and even that isn’t perfect. Just give EQG a chance and if you don’t like it, fine. But don’t spoil everyone’s fun.

Personal just-for-the-sake-of-unnecessary-creepy headcanon: there is no real, natural human world. Sunset Shimmer created it - she’s a student of Celestia, after all, and quite likely a magical prodigy - which is why the names are the same, and the skin colors.
