Remember those blankets with three of the G5 characters from before the movie came out? This was basically my reaction to it when I first saw the ponies on there.
If I might venture a guess, is it because they seem more real? The G4 Mane Six sometimes seemed like they struggled to break out of their character archetypes (e.g. Pinkie was the hyperactive party animal, Rainbow Dash was the confident jock, etc.) whereas the G5 Mane Six seem more well-rounded (e.g. Zipp has some athletic tendencies, but she’s also somewhat introverted and also quite intelligent, Izzy is generally outwardly happy but has hints of pathos underneath, such as her childhood not being the happiest, and so on).
Personally, I like how it feels everything has been carefully planned out (at least as far as the CG stuff goes), and anything that gets brought up is followed through on, as opposed to G4, which would introduce things haphazardly, and then not really do anything with them (though the exceptions were always appreciated).
Misty was pretty much the only interesting character in the show. The others… not so much. I still don’t get how they decided to give Zipp the whole detective shtick. In terms of lore, I guess their end game is Sunny finding out what happened to her dad with g4 stuff sprinkled inbetween. But man, they’re really taking their sweet time. And with no MYM in 2024, I suspect it’s going to take a long ass time before any significant progression in lore is made.
Some or more “diehard” fans of G5 typically say that and do have a bit of positive bias, despite G5’s many obvious flaws simply because they enjoy for what it is or just don’t care about storytelling (I assume). At least that’s from what I’ve seen from other fans like him. Even then, it’s rare to find such people. Btw, RB hardly talks to other people, so I don’t think we’ll ever find out lol.
The characters. Obviously g4 generally has much better writing n whatnot, but I dunno, these new characters just do it for me. Most of g5 is made up of hits, while g4 has a lot of misses

While I do disagree with your statement, it does feel lacking in terms of the unique charm that G4 had that even brought us to existence in the first place. The mane 5 were interesting characters and had good development in the movie. Now it seems like the writers have no idea what to do with them at all. Misty however, is getting the best treatment in terms of writing and character development. She might as well be the main character of G5. It’s odd, because Sunny was originally written to be the main protagonist. Now she’s just pushed aside for whatever reason. One of the only mane 5 that gets more focus is Zipp of all ponies. Yes, her detective work is engaging, but that should have belonged to Sunny, who is the one more interested in ancient Equestrian history. Also, the way they deal with lore in G5 feels very stale in comparison to G4’s massive fantasy world. MYM is restricted to 3 locations and the studio that does MYM probably doesn’t have the budget, time, and resources to make brand new locations or G4 locations.

I mean, it’s not very hard to top G4’s Season 6 to 9.

You didn’t simply say that you “didn’t like it” though. You said it is “overrated” (implying people who do like it are wrong to do so) and “just plain shit” (implying that people who do like it have low standards). Tacking “in my opinion” onto the end doesn’t change that you come off as judgemental toward people who like G5.
