She never led her team on finding the Elements of Harmony against Nightmare Moon; or take charge of the Changeling Invasion when Princess Celestia was captured. And no one ever offered her a command. She learned to play it safe - and she never, ever, got noticed by anyone.

Twilight actually did die from the elements beam of light. Celestia went to the Land of the Dead, bargained with Death himself, and brought her back.
