Sprout didn’t exactly intend to take Hitch’s job. He just didn’t want to go along for the mission because unicorns terrify him. It didn’t occur to him that he’d become acting sheriff until Phyllis pointed it out to him. In fact, she pointed it out twice because he didn’t get the message the first time. He is so used to not being in charge that he didn’t recognize the power when he got it.
He gets more interesting every time I watch the movie. He didn’t listen to Phyllis’ pleas because he cracked. She seems to have had an unhealthy control over his life, and he picked the worst possible time to stop listening.
Sprout needs therapy and a hug.

My definition of morality is the concept of how the meaningful actions of rightful or wrongful conscience by one person (or a group) positively or negatively affect another person (or a group of persons), and thus how they impact the function of a single individual or influence a whole functioning group.
Some people say they derive morality from a book of rules laid out religious texts and claims that without the presence of a higher being, people will have no morality.
However, there is a secular reason why morality exists within human nature. Morality is what builds trust among people, maintains a functioning society, keeps the people safe from physical, emotional and/or psychological harm and ensure fairness among those who deserve reward or punishment for their actions.
Murder is immoral, because it is taking of life, which can negatively impact not only the victim’s life permanently, but also the psychological and mental acuities of those close to the victim. Thievery is immoral because the actions of stealing can negatively impact the financial stability and security of the victim.
However, morality can become a complex matter to tackle when you consider about how and actions of an individual or group came into fruition in the first place. If one were to deal the deadly strike without provocation, then that would be immoral. However, if one were to do that only in self-defence and if their lives were in danger, then that would be considered moral, since that individual was acting in self-preservation and the assailant was doing something immoral first.
Sure, Sprout was very ignorant about the pegasi and unicorns race, and therefore he felt he was justified in setting up a personal army. However, when his actions ended up damaging someone’s owned property (aka the Crystal Brighthouse belonging to Sunny) and nearly got other Earth ponies killed by his giant machine, then what he did was considered immoral. He may be a dumb idiot for some ponies, but he still display a sense of right and wrong when he drove his vehicle to the right to avoid running over his mom, thereby showing he actually does consciously know right from wrong. Sprout would overtake Hitch as sheriff and later overlord, but he only did it when the Sheriff left town to find Sunny. He knew that if he tried to overtake the Sheriff’s position (or turn the town into a dictatorship) while Hitch is present, he would be kicked out for inappropriately pushing up the ranks, thereby showing he still knows the difference between right from wrong.
This is why I criticize Sprout for turning the town into a dictator microstate, in spite of his mother’s later pleas to tone down on his aspirations after his mother realized how things had gone too far. He should have obeyed his mother’s pleas, but he still chose to push on his goal to destroy the lighthouse and risking everyone else’s lives while doing so. You know what type of person does this kind of behaviour with no regards to other’s well-beings? We call that a monster.

He’s dumb in a fun way.
@KozumoJi
How fascistic of you. That’s like getting arrested for breaking a law you didn’t know existed. Some people will call you “immoral” because you walk around without a mask. So you like to parrot words like “morality” huh? Bet you don’t even know what it means. Go on. Define it. Let’s see how far you get.

@hironakamura
what? Sprout’s not dumb at all, just a little bit clumsy. he made the whole city follow him and serve him, a dumb person wouldn’t be able to do that. even i wouldn’t be able to do that lol, and i’m pretty smart

Wtf is wrong with kids these days? Lack of morals and values? Sprout is just being himself. That’s just how he is. He’s dumb. Now Imagine being judged and criticized for just being WHO YOU ARE. How would you feel if you were ostracized for simply being yourself? Its all fun and dandy when you’re on the side that’s judging but when you live long enough, one day, you’ll find yourself on the other side and then we’ll see how you like it.
And you call yourselves pony fans? DYEWTS?
