Kind of like how, in G4, the Mane Six had their lip sync for the lines, “It says that they like jousting”, “make sweets of crystal berries”, and “they had a petting zoo with tiny ewes” removed in the final version of The Ballad of the Crystal Empire.

Wow. The last names didn’t even occur to me. I’ve already heard some people in the disability community working with the headcanon that earless is her normal state. At this point, it wouldn’t hurt in the least if they just rolled with it in the same way the G4 team did with Derpy.

I think it’s mostly down to the constraints of 3D animation as compared with 2D - with 2D, you can cheat at the angles so the break in the hair for the ears is just implied, or draw it as a simple line through the hair, and our brains will fill in the necessary information. You can’t do that with 3D - as demonstrated above, the ears kind of awkwardly clip through the hair unless a specific hair pattern is modeled into it to allow them through.
Part of me hopes they fix that for chapter 4 (since chapter 3 is likely to be the Winter Wishday special), but part of me is kind of happy having Jazz as this generation’s Derpy.

She’s a forgetful changling. Keeps leaving off the ears.
At this point, they should just run with it. Make her an undercover alien pony. Sometimes she forgets to put her ears on, but sometimes she remembers (like in TYT).

It’s possible that her ears clip through her hair, making it difficult to properly render them without looking even weirder than simply removing the ears and calling it good enough.

An episode is made up of several hundred small clips of video. That’s how dozens of animators can work at the same time. Once the release is made, all pieces are merged together to create the final video. Probably they didn’t use the last version of this scene by accident. Poor Jazz 😂

Wouldn’t they have pony models where all the details of the pony are present? Sort of like how I’ve seen SFM pony models being used by the fandom.
Speaking of the checkboxes and the program, I did notice that Thunder didn’t have his armor neck piece on in one frame while in Mane Melody.
I’m not an animator nor would I be good at it, but I’ve always wondered this too.
