diffrent modles of pip buck were issued to diffrent stables depending on the program at play in the stables and some had diffrent power solutions.
(which is actualy the cannon reason in the actual fallout games why diffrent vaults have diffrent looking pipboys the ones used by the vault in fallout one were of an older moddle, not wrist mounted but hand held, durable, rugged and capable as shown by its look int he menu screen, of still functioning even when badly damaged…the pc in ones looked held together with duct tape and a prayer)

…so obviously Fallout Equestria would never be canon, but is it just me or did Hasbro essentially leave whatever happened between G4 and G5 so vague that even such events are a possibility? (And for that matter, could Pipp be a subtle nod?)

Why wouldn’t she? The Pipbuck would be using vacuum tubes and have an old CRT screen. Pipp’s phone uses (what for Pip would be) rare transistors and has a modern AMOLED screen that would be utterly inconceivable for somepony in Pip’s position. It’d be like having a supercomputer you can fit in your hoof.
Though I imagine Pipp would still find Pip’s Pipbuck quite stylish.
