It’s possible that when the ponies say “King Grover”, they’re using his title in Griffin, that doesn’t have that linguistic quirk. I mean, in real life we have examples like Czar Nikolas and Kaiser Wilhem.

Understandable. I’ll just go through my media backlog for other things to watch or read.
Or maybe it’s a linguistics thing, like how the Gems from Steven universe were all female-presenting and thus didn’t have a male pronoun (See Blue Diamond saying “Her name is Steven”). Perhaps the Ponish word King doesn’t refer to the gender of the monarch, but their good/evil alignment. After all, the only kings we see in the show are King Sombra and The Storm King.
To be fair, they are shapeshifters, and can be any gender they want.
Maybe those are effects of too many “ploopies” happening in Princess Tempora’s Time Dimension (especially the latest big one from comic #80 with Changeling Inquisition) or maybe the author is just testing how far recurring Sunburst’s lewd nightmare can be pushed?
