This! It’s frustrating that people are taking what an artist (and allegedly the director too) said on Twitter as hard canon.
Confirmed the design was based on it, not that it was intended to be, or that it will be once the special/series actually tackles it.

Well, if they show it again now that the magic’s come back and the fool thing is sparkling crystal, then yeah. But until then it’s just an ordinary giant tree with pink leaves.

The Everfree Forest still exists and this isn’t where the castle ruins are located.
I will not accept other explanations, people are free to think what they want.

Speculative at this point; what gets concepted before something is released doesn’t always make it to the final product (see: the early G5 M6 redesigns…)
We’ll only really know once we get more info from the special / series; until then we can just assume from how that tree was based on the crystal tree during production.
Unicorns live in a forest, no one called it Eveefree forest. Treehouse is supposed to be within Everfree forest, same place where the old castle ruins stand, and as we’ve seen in the movie, whole area around the tree is grassland now.
