Well, if that’s the case, this should be part of the G4 continuity not an entirely new one. It’s “A New Generation” after Twilight Sparkle’s generation(and many others) but still within the Friendship is Magic continuity. Just like Transformers Beast Wars is a new generation within the Transformers G1 cartoon continuity.Though, maybe the Transformers definition of “Generations” doesn’t apply for MLP.

I think ponies will only be able to cast tribal magic if they have enough luminescence to activate their wings/horn. It’d be really cool to have a gimmick where ponies need to be happy to use magic

Hmm, new lore info. If we still assume that G5 is indeed a sequel to G4, then A New Generation would be many eons after Friendship is Magic. Thus be long after Princess Twilight dies and the age of Alicorns as rulers of Equestria is long over.
