Damn, FFII had the WORST level up system in the franchise. The encounter and status effects are retarded. Monster in the Box!(A Gigas inside). Don’t even get me started on those empty rectangular rooms that have ridiculous encounter rates. that game was truly a nightmare.

The Mages in the first Final Fantasy were the closest to the Dungeons & Dragons Wizards: you only had so many spells you could cast per day, which would be replenished by going to an inn or using a cottage.
 
It wasn’t until later games and remakes of the first where they introduced the more familiar MP (Magic Point) system.
