I kind of assumed as much. It still represents a story that didn’t, and couldn’t, happen in the show.
The comic with King Zebra and Scootaloo actually being a colt called Terry is fake, not official.
I didn’t say it’s not, I said if it’s not.
And what makes you so sure it’s not in the show’s continuity? And don’t bring up contradictions since the only one going by source is how many times they been to the Crystal Empire. Which honestly isn’t any worse than how Ponyville went from being around for centuries to being around roughly as long as Granny Smith. Who I don’t recall being said to be alive for centuries.
If you need “loopholes” to put this stuff in canon with the actual show i considerer it not in canon with it. Because then you have to put every silly comic into the canon of the show. Yes that means strange german comics too.
Well I did put it in quotes for a reason… Anyways, if this thing doesn’t follow the show’s continuity, then I see no reason as for why people should pay it any more attention than those silly German comics.
Leon is best alicorn.
You seem to conflating “canon” with “continuity” and “good”.
Something can be canon, yet not not be in the same continuity as another work. For example, the Dark Knight Returns is part of Batman’s canon and is a significant part of his history. And yet, it is not in continuity with the assorted Batman comics, despite how much has been taken from it (namely Batman being antagonistic towards Superman).
The same goes for pony. The show, the IDW comics, the toyline, books, etc. are all “canon”. They’re not automatically in continuity with eachother.
Honestly, people have been misusing the word “canon”.
We’re the fandom for the show, not the brand. Else all the inane things that end up in toy descriptions would be “canon”, as well as King Zebra and Scootaloo actually being a colt called Terry.
And when the show contradicts itself, we call it a “retcon” =p
I didn’t realized we owned the MLP brand.
Anyway, the show’s already contradicted itself. Not like it makes any episodes “non-canon”.
Hasbro decides what is or isn’t canon. Not the fanbase.
Maybe it’s their second time just to enjoy being there, instead of being there just to make sure the empire hosts the games.
We have our little workarounds. That’s partly what drew me into this fandom in the first place.
We kind of can. If it didn’t happen on the show itself, than we have no reason to consider it canon. And if it contradicts the show in any way, then it’s explicitly not canon.
We don’t get to decide what is or isn’t canon.
And there is no contradiction with Magic Duel. Trixie did not say she would never boast while putting on shows again.
Except Celestia apparently didn’t adopt Cadence until after she ascended. Combine that with what else is in the book and the idea that there is a habit at least in regards to Celestia of calling fellow Alicorns kinship terms such as “niece” or “sister” (in Luna’s case) isn’t that much of a stretch.
@gg666
The sypnosis doesn’t say that Trixie is actively malicious towards Twilight. She could see Twilght as a means towards a goal or for her to gain something.
That is my biggest question too. Wouldn’t be in canon with Magic Duel then…
(I’ve never read a book in foreign language in my life btw.)
or she says that because, you know, they are sister-in-laws.
I pre-ordered the book on Amazon.
I’m sure Meghan McCarthy is going to get bombarded with questions about how this ties into the show.
The book will be on sale April 2nd.
Yet more is built in its place. This seems to raise just as many questions as it answers.
Maybe his evil had to go somewhere.
Still irritates me though since it gives the impression only alicorns can be princesses, and you’ll be turned into one to be granted the title of princess.
Then suddenly, everypony became an alicorn and no butthurt existed for anypony. :p
@wantfastcars
It’s funny. All the stuff that’s come out regarding alicorns just make the fanfic Paradise still true-to-canon, of what we know of it. (I’ve been expecting it to get Jossed any day now.) In that fic, Luna and Celesta were born as Earth Ponies, and then gained their horns and wings as the story progresses. It’s a nice way to reinforce the idea that alicorns are representative of all three pony races. An alicorn leader is ideal, in that respect; she’s not going to choose any particular pony race above any other.
I’d still love to learn more about Luna and Celestia’s past. I’m hoping that they’ll go into that in Season 4, now that Twilight is an alicorn.
(I’m still trying not to get too excited about it, in the event that it doesn’t happen.)
