Well, it plays out pretty legit in Sonic CD too. Metal Sonic is unbeatable by Sonic. Can’t be damaged, has an invincibility shield, can tear through solid objects that Sonic can’t, and can easily match Sonic’s speed as well.
 
Only thing Metal Sonic couldn’t handle in CD was Sonic’s reflexes. When they were both pushing themselves to the utmost limits of their speeds, Sonic was able to respond just a little bit faster than Metal’s machine body, which was why Metal couldn’t pull up or stop himself, or even bring up a barrier in time, to keep from smashing into a wall and messing himself up badly.

I remember that movie. Only time I’ve ever seen the Sonic versus robo-clone match played out in a semi-logical manner.
 
In all honesty, robot duplicates should almost invariably curbstomp the original. Machines are by definition faster, stronger, and tougher than a flesh-and-blood creature could ever hope to be.

Actually, ‘Silver Sonic’ is the SECOND Metal Sonic. Chronologically, Sonic CD happens between Sonic 1 and Sonic 2.

Y’mean Shard from the Sonic & Sonic Universe comics? While he’s cool, the Sonic comic book canon is different from the game canon.
 
I thought Metal Overlord looked kinda cool personally. Plus I liked his theme song.

Mecha Sonic wasn’t nearly that cool outside the fan project. Metal Overlord was kind of a wuss.
 
Now Metal Sonic reborn as Shard? He can make Sonic and Shadow look so slow, its like their standing still. Plus he’s gotta an awesome attitude and blaster.

Mecha Sonic? Definitely not one to mess with. Especially if it’s the one from Super Mario Bros. Z. Almost as badass as Omega Shenron.

What about the one from Sonic 2? (The first robotic Sonic.) I think that one is called “Silver Sonic.”

Mecha Sonic can turn Super and Metal Sonic can’t.  
Plus he looks more badass.

Mecha Sonic in S3&K was an inferior model in the first place. Only reason he was built was cause the actual Metal Sonic was stranded on Little Planet after the events of Sonic CD. Silver Sonic from Sonic 2 and Mecha Sonic were pretty much Eggman’s ‘quick backup’ models that he probably threw together last minute.

In canon Mecha Sonic only appeared once, and wasn’t even all that memorable, even as a final boss.
