They probably just have never played an electric Cello or Bass. They actually are pretty freaking amazing. And a heck of a lot easier to get to the other end of an airplane flight.
 
As for the image, it is exquisite :) Octavia looks really good in that post with that instrument - she looks ready to play :)

That cello would sound absolutely terrible. It would have almost zero resonance and wouldn’t be audible very far without a microphone.
