It might be a reference to that japanese trope where achieving true happiness causes the soul to ascend to heaven, regardless of life/death status.

You usually see it as a little ghost angel thing popping out of people’s mouths after being given a great compliment (or tasting something amazing, being in a great hotspring, etc.) as a joke.
