So do the aforementioned excise taxes on fuel, alcohol, and tobacco. State income is a lot higher than Federal income, even if you barely make above minimum wage. Meanwhile, Silicon Forest and that one world-famous company nobody ever associates with Oregon keep pulling “I’m very cute so I don’t have to pay taxes”-type moves all the time and get away with it.

…Seriously, I’ve worked at snoo-tee boutiques where there are four digit price tags on the same kind of trashy handbags and accessories you can get from a dollar store for under ten bucks, and both are literally made in the same factories in Mainland Taiwan.

Good. Since sale taxes disproportionally affect the poor, any tax system which eliminates them is a net benefit for society.

Sales tax doesn’t exist everywhere. The state of Oregon in the USA has no sales tax, for example.
It may as well be if they keep changing the faces on the dollar bills to people no one knows.
