Seeing as the tree may have been only shown twice throughout the season (this flashback and “Game Knight”); it’s probable that Game Knight was one of the early episodes canonically and was moved to a slot past Potion Mystery in an attempt to justify why it’s seen in the intro despite being implied to have died very early in the show:

There are also another factor in addition to this: Whether or not the show has all its episodes in chronological order.
I have seen shows that have clear continuity, but had their episodes not in chronological order.
