I doubt she’s the least popular. I’ve heard her merch sold out numerous times. And if the mlp’s contest meant anything, she’s actually the most popular pony, period.

She’s the least popular of the Mane 6 because honesty is the thing that gets kids in trouble for things that oftentimes don’t really matter and can hurt more than it helps if used improperly. There are some things you just shouldn’t say to people. The dark side of honesty includes being unnecessarily hurtful and/or exposing oneself to others’ pedantry. Also she’s a painfully transparent vehicle for “Remember to do your chores, kids!”
I still think her element should have been Trust.
Even if the show writers ruined her appeal by having her parrot all the obnoxious things that parents tell their kids that ruins their mood, I don’t consider those parts of her to be canon. Our favorite down-home, family-lovin’, applebuckin’, country pony is best pony.
