They may be prototypes, but the changes made are rarely that drastic. Almost always the stock images are identical to the product, because other wise it would be false advertising.
Equestria Daily already debunked these being gen 5 toys.
What you don’t realize is that Amazon stock images are prototypes in the later stages of production. There have been many instances where things seen in the images have changed upon release to the actual public.

That was promo material, not the final products. The final packaging had the finalized g4 logo
First G4 toys and presentations used G3 logo.
Except it’s still using g4 logos and vectors. You’d think they’d get that squared away before the release.
That’s a placeholder description that any item from the mlp franchise gets upon first being listed. And also, these are likely based on the movie which will be a prequel to g5, I’m sure the plot point will involve the entire race changes, so to claim it’s not g5 is a possibly wrong assumption.
Honestly, it might still be Gen 4. In my experience, the toys have been mismatched to the appearance of the show at least 90% of the time. Sure, we got the blind bags, which were pretty accurate (at least most of them, some are just repainted of the Mane 6) for the most part, but it kinda feels few and far between that the toys reflect the show appearance.

Well there was concept art that was leaked of the mane 6. Now that’s done automatically mean that’s what we’re getting but it is worth mentioning that pinkie was a pegasus in it.
And for every new iteration we get a new cast of characters. The only one who might return is AJ as she’s been in every generation except G2.
