I’m a sucker for that sort of ‘heroic spirit prevails’ stuff, must admit, but I thought the punch made a tiny bit more sense then usual for the trope with Kishin, honestly.
I mean, the dude has more or less turned himself into some sort of demi-god incarnate of fear & madness. So it makes a certain amount of sense that somebody knowing rationally what he is but showing the courage to face him anyway would be more or less the anti-thesis to everything he draws power from.
I totally get why the ancient ûber-evil dread monster psycho Death himself fears & crippled himself to bind going down by getting punched into shards by a sixteen-ish year-old girl can be see as quite~ the anti-climax, though. I’ll fairly admit I can see that.
Well said. And yeah, I just wish Maka didn’t one-shot the Kishin with a fucking trope-y cliche courage punch. If she just went god mode with Soul and chopped him in half I’d be happy with the mediocrity.
I loved the beginning through to where the manga and anime parted. Up until then it was nearly a 10 out of 10. I guess I’m just glad it was solid until then.
Yeah…
The manga kinda did the same thing as Trigun kinda did, and just sank right into suck more or less at the exact moment they split with the anime, huh?
Wonder if its a resentment type thing? ‘Wow, they took my work and made it really, really good AND popular. Better piss away all that by upping the grim-dark to near W40K levels!’
I mean, the anime isn’t perfect by any means, but at least it ended in a pretty satisfying way while also tying up most plot-points its own cheesy but fun & action-y way.
