I still need to see the rest after this episode. I am behind by half the season. No spoilers. 😅
 
You sure put lots of thought and backed up your theories. It is a good possibility of what you say is true. That is probably the reason why Celestia turned Discord to stone in the first place. Cockatrice petrfication is resistent to other magics, which can indicate why Discord could not snap his way out of his statue state in the first place.

It sort of makes the events of the My Little Pony Movie even more sadder for Celestia, being turned to stone there might have caused this primal fear to resurface again when they were invaded. Combine it with all of the other times where Celestia ended up stuck (Friendship is Magic, Return of Harmony), immobilized (A Royal Canterlot Wedding: Part 2, To Where and Back Again: Part 2), or trapped (Twilights Kingdom: Part 2) over the course of 2 years, and I think we can start piecing together why Celestia feels the need to retire from her duties that keep her inside Canterlot Castle and to go out into the world to perform heroics like we saw in the beginning of the episode.

Her fear of Chickens might go deeper than what we are seeing: if anything, she might actually be afraid of Cockatrices because at some point in her life she ran “afowl” of one and got turned to stone by it, and Luna was able to save her after some time. She might have begun to associate the Chickens with Cockatrices due to their similarities.
