For other characters being wrong is a way to create conflict and get a story going.  
For Glimmer it’s her whole personality.
 
And for her supposedly being wrong (and being really wrong at that, like “capital punishment” wrong), she usually gets away scot-free, as opposed to others, e.g. Twilight in Lesson Zero since that got brought up.

I’d like to point out though that in a show like this, the characters being wrong is a staple of how the show works.
 
There’s no need to fully justify what Starlight does in certain episodes because she’s often supposed to be in the wrong.
 
And the people who dislike her intentionally read the episodes in the absolute worst possible way.

The point is, she’s used three controversial spells - making Big Mac talk, mind control, and a cutie mark swap. Big Mac talking is the most minor of them and she was given the AJ stare down. The mind control blew up in her face badly and it was from feeling pressured and scared about the friendship part of her lessons (similar to Twilight using a mind control spell on a doll because she needed to cause a friendship problem…or are we ignoring that episode now?). The cutie mark swap was done out of panic when confronting the sisters and trying to get them talk backfired and led to worse arguments between the two, and ultimately it was the correct choice as most “learn from their perspective” episodes tend to be on any show.
 
The other three big spells backfired because of outside reasons - the bottle for her emotions broke, leading to the trouble. Sunburst didn’t want to relive his childhood experience like that because it was a rough time for him. Discord being sealed because he was being a jerk that episode only backfired because he had other means of causing trouble just because things didn’t go his way.
 
The only controversial choice for her not involving magic that I can think of is the Pharnyx episode and it was again, a bad choice made when everything was falling apart around her. Which is typical pony shennigans to be honest - must I bring up Rainbow Dash trying to stop winter in Ponyville and destroying the weather factory…which she did not get punished for beyond failing to stop winter? How about AJ taking the whole honesty thing too far in Honest Apple and spitting on the contestants hard work? And there’s so much more.
 
Starlight isn’t better or worse than the rest of the cast and trying to demonize her every second she’s on screen has become even dumber the Twilicorn drama bs.

No she hasn’t and it’s clear most of you don’t pay actual attention to the god damn show. First of all, Starlight was shown using mind control magic twice after reformation - once to force Big Mac to talk and once on the girls. Both times when she felt super pressured to deal with friendship and she was having a hard time with it. Both of which happened in her first reformation episode.
 
The “anger possession” in season 7’s Bottled Up was a magical accident of sealing her anger towards Trixie and the bottle breaking. Not a spell she used, and in season 8 all her spell did against Discord was make it so he can’t physically enter the school because he was being a huge dick (and HE got away with it). Meanwhile, the cutie mark swap in her map episode was not sociopathic in the slightest because it was induced by panic and a last resort AFTER she tried to get Celestia and Luna to talk leading to them fighting worse (nevermind, she agonized over it).
 
And if I hear the kidification spell from Uncommon Bond brought up, I’ll just laugh at you because there was nothing bad with that one.
 
Starlight has several episodes in which she plays a big supporting role or main role in which she does not do anything even remotely close to being considered “bad” but you people can’t seem to let it go while praising Discord of all characters when he’s the biggest jerk on the show with terrible tendencies even after learning about friendship.
 
Or hell, how about we get into all the stupid stuff the Mane 6 have gotten into going as far back as the previous season (hello, Non-Compete Clause and Yakity Sax, or go back to season 7 with Honest Apple…).
 
The hate for Starlight and now the Young Six apparently is just friggin stupid altogether. The Mane Six have gone through eight seasons of character development and they are barely growing anymore. There’s a reason most of their episodes have become about teaching others or just dealing with an outside problem - they’ll barely go further because there isn’t much further to go. Most of the episodes trying to teach them a lesson in general turn out to be some of the worst with a couple of exceptions here and there.

This is gonna be boring.

Discord wasn’t a pony rised in Pony society he is an alien being who lived before ponies even started to breath. And he did understood his lessons and shown that he cares at least about a single pony. Starlight was always depicted as sociopath who gets away with her bullshit even after reformation and never gets punished.

Oh sure when every other character (especially Discord) goes through doing stupid shit and gets away with it, it’s fine, but when Starlight does it, it’s more than justified to bitch about it. Yeah, that makes so much sense.

Time to play America’s Favorite game, “How Will Starlight Fuck It Up and Learn Absolutely Nothing?”!

Don’t tell me the lesson is when to say no, Starlight’s not a pushover like that.

As long as she stays on track with not making the problem worse by trying to solve it with magic, I think we’re all safe. I have my own idea of what the message of the episode could be.

It’s sad how from being a hero of equestria, you become a babysitter for a bunch of boring characters. #JusticeForGlimGlam
