I sure hope they’re not; that’s like pushing an agenda on characters who shouldn’t feel that way, especially teenagers/ponies which (in the case of Twilight and Rarity, at least) are canonically straight. I feel if someone is using a character we know to be one type of sexuality as another, then they don’t really like and/or understand that character.
 
All this shipping fuel is nonsense anyway since this is a show about friendship, not romance. All this pandering ever did was make being on this site and FiM Fiction intolerable, especially with the more explicit fan works; bronies tend to be dudes, and—for some reason—when dudes see any kind of affection, here comes in the waves of lesbian art, even between relatives. It’s like they can’t comprehend it and can’t “help themselves.”
 
I mean, at least Lyra and Sweetmint/Bon Bon has some “evidence” to make it believable-ish.

If I had to guess, it’s one or more of the artists who ship EG Rarijack. There’s been a lot of visual stuff tied to those two on a number of different occasions, but never anything in the script that specifically calls for it to appear as far as I know.

Teasing rather than promoting.

The writers undoubtedly have their favorite ships. As do the artists. Even the VA’s have their favorite ships. Ashleigh Ball rather notoriously ships AppleDash, and apparently Andrea Libman ships Fluttercord. Even the execs probably have their favorite ships if they’re involved with the show on any level more intimate than making money.
 
The thing is, that doesn’t make those ships canon. It’s about the closest you’ll ever get, but I suspect you’d find a lot of overlapping among the crew which would make it hopeless to declare what they believe canon. Otherwise you’d have a big, giant ship that encompasses almost every character in the show, if not literally every one. And that’s not going to satisfy the shippers out there who want to declare that their ship, and not some other one, is canon.
 
Asking the crew is hopeless, guys. I guarantee that whoever Nick ships, he’s barred from promoting it in his writing if he likes his job.
