The writer(s) probably just started out with “Pinkie is depressed and mane 5 try to cheer her up” and then made thier way from there. It usually leaves everything else be terrible writing. Kinda like in “It isnt the mane thing about you” where they started out with “Rarity but in a punk style”, and had to make 18 minutes of ponies acting like idiots just to get to the pre-planned end result

Yes but that was very temporary (she even brought herself out of her initial funk in the episode), and even at her worst didn’t quite get as much “I give up on life” like she was in this episode. Plus the problem involved what she prided herself as being her primary talent and we could identify with her being hit so hard by the challenge to her sense of self. In this episode though it was all about a random instrument we never heard about until now.

Not nearly as extreme, and with much less motivation. And thats AFTER 4 additional seasons of character growth. They didnt even resolve anything in the end. She’s still gonna love playing it, and everyone (except yaks) are still going to suffer from it.

Agreed. They have had many episodes establishing pinkie’s development, and how much her friends mean to her, but when they tell her politely that shes bad at an instrument once? Fuck them, im moving to another country

I honestly felt this episode had Pinkie be more than a bit out of character. Unreasonably, even insanely depressed over not being good at something she loves? Sure, that makes sense for her. But abandoning everything she loves: her friends, her home, her job, her possessions, her life’s purpose as a party pony, all over not being able to play an instrument well? It seemed way too extreme, especially when we were never given any justification for why the instrument made her so happy.

Not to mention the moral felt really off. Yes, its fine to do things you love even if you aren’t good at them, but the actual issue was that Pinkie was disturbing and even damaging things around her with her incessant bad playing, and they acted in the end like that was never a problem. It would have been better to just nicely ask her to not play around others when they’re trying to concentrate, sleep, do work, etc.

Sad Pinkie is cute regardless of course.
