I guess this hasn’t been explained.
 
This little adventuring team operates out of a museum, but also has some outside agents. Night Cap’s part of the team, but wasn’t an employee of the museum itself. That’s why at the beginning of chapter 2 he was “working” in another town and the plot had to find a way to send him to the museum where the drama was going on. It’s also why security detained him when he showed up during the heist. No one expected him to be there at that time.
 
Hiring him for a museum job was done in part to keep him closer so he’s easier to contact when the team needs to assemble, partly so he can be kept under adult supervision and be less of a wildcard, and partly out of pity.
 
Now he is a full time employee and Rhapsody will be getting to see him every day.

I ship it. Rhapsody may hate him, but on some level they just fundamentally deserve each other, you know?
