They do. This beetle, in particular, the Rainbow Stag is what Thorax's design is entirely based off of.

Insects get ridiculously colorful just like pastel horses, you know. Believe me you're welcome to dislike the exact color pallets all you'd like but saying or implying that they don't resemble insects is just ignorance. Their designs did have a source, whether or not it was well-received doesn't change that fact.
