Also common in pickup trucks without rear seating. Maybe just older ones, though. My ’87 Ranger had a bench seat.
I used to lay across the front seating of our 84 Caprice if I was parked and tired. The seats didn’t recline though and the belt buckles would jab me unless I had padding on them e.g. a coat.

Sleeping in cars used to be more viable I guess?
Go look at 1960s cars, they’re common there. Even the Ford Falcon (One of America’s cheap 1960s economy cars) had them. One reason why they’re not in modern cars is so people don’t slide all over the car in hard turns.
They’re called bench seats, they used to be common but floor shifters and modern safety standards have made them pretty much obsolete.
