Honestly that episode was hamfisted anyway. Like her having some epiphany when the Strawberry pony gave her honest opinion of apples and just discovering it was hurtful was dumb. She wouldn’t have friends/it would be a glaring issue if Applejack gave blunt honesty like that regularly.
 
Difference is: Rarity asked for Applejack’s honest opinion. Applejack never asked for Strawberry pony’s honest opinion.
 
That episode was stupid and shouldn’t reflect on Applejack’s character.

To clarify, she caused chaos by being blunt, as opposed to honest. There’s a difference and Applejack is still learning it apparently.

so you’re insulting the writers for not treating honesty as black and white? Huh?

Given that she caused some chaos by being too honest with no tact, it’s definitely an issue.
 
Of course she also could have AVOIDED a plot (“Leap of Faith”) by being MORE honest.
