your current filter.H-haha… I wonder who could that be?…
That is the drive that gets someone to work.
But, you must not also mistake recklessness as determination.
Or you will be on a fast lane to certain hell.

Well, the good news with being unwilling to accept the flaws of the world, is that I don’t really have much to lose, compared with the gain. It’s like… I dunno, gambling a small amount of money you can’t actually do anything with, by itself.
Can’t blame anyone for having such feelings.
I’m suddenly reminded of a Calvin & Hobbes comic:
Dad, at dinner table: “Things could be worse, Calvin.”
Calvin: “Things could be a lot better, too!”
Calvin, in his room: “But worse is more likely.”
Still, I think things can always be better, and I am rarely satisfied with leaving things in mediocrity.
Life is too short to care all the time.
People get burnt out.
It could be worse.
… or better :P

I have my values, and I have my desire to base my actions on rational decisions (with a touch of emotion to make me care in the first place, of course). I’ll stick to it, even if the recent political climate in the US terrifies me with how much fewer people seem to care about that than I thought…
Yeah, I was getting that impression too.
But in today’s climate of things when neither side seems to be able to be coherent to reasons, it feels like a wasted effort to formulate a good argument.

I never was a fan of removing downvotes to begin with - I never used them much and I didn’t actually care for them but I saw neither a point nor a benefit in removing them, and I certainly didn’t like how the devs just kinda sprung the change on us at first.
However, I wound up at odds with at least a couple people because I actually wanted to explore and establish why removing downvotes would be a bad thing, while they were whining about “safe spaces” and “hugboxes” while ironically acting like tilted SJWs themselves.
I tend to dislike those who take positions based entirely on emotion without bothering to think things out, even if they and I are technically on the same side.

Agreed. The downvotes system might not be perfect, but just flat-out removing it isn’t going to make things better.
It’s either the downvotes or frustrated people shitposting in the comments.
I’m sure that wouldn’t be a total nightmare for the mods and users here.
@Dusk Raven
Eeyup. Now, there were certainly good arguments made back then for why the downvote option should stay, but OP’s here was not one of them.
Pretty much the only conclusion given how the artist worded things.
Many users expressed concerns with the new system, so the staff temporarily reverted the downvote system back to the way it was before while they consider other possible solutions.
If it’s not a good indicator of how good an image is. Then anyone who takes the voting system are asking to be offended or disappointed.
Good images get healthy votes. Bad images get low scores.
Though there are abuse and flaws to the system.
Most of the highest voted images are well made. Most of the lowest scored images appear to be crappy unauthorized edits and shitpost level stuff that somehow did not get deleted.
I think the art critic world is not that much different from the marketplace.
The majority users and artists here alike seem to prefer keeping the system the way it is or don’t care.
Often times downvotes are the only way many are able to express their disapproval of things on this site if they can’t formulate anything good to say or criticisms.

Zeb’s right, I don’t really see any sort of “political correctness and anti-choice” in either the move or the reasons stated. The issue is that the system is flawed thanks both to abuse and do to downvotes having little consistent meaning. People downvote for different reasons, sometimes very different, and it’s not necessarily a good indicator of how unpopular an image is.
That is also true in reverse.
For myself, I don’t really think taking away downvotes but leaving upvotes is the best option, but I have no particular care or concern for the present system. Upvotes and downvotes don’t have the same influence as they do on, say, Fimfiction (where they actually affect the mechanics), and I find the number of upvotes over downvotes isn’t particularly indicative of how good an image really is.
You’re making many assumptions about which artists dislike it, that it’s only artists, and for what reasons.
I still think we should keep the system the way it has been for years.
Apologies or being blunt here. Who cares if a bunch of subpar non-artists get pissy over having such a low score for pieces that are lazily placed together and passed off as “art” or crappy edits? Post crap, expect crap. And Shitposters actively seek downvotes on their uploads anyways.
This new affirmative action wreaks of political correctness and anti-choice.
It seems most artists from what I see are rather fine with the current system despite the vocal calls from several people to abolish it.
Most artists who do file DNPs appear to be for other reasons such as simply not wanting others to post their stuff on other sites.
