Yeah, but Amy also said she didn’t watch it. The whole continuity thing will get less important to writers as time goes on. I guess we will see what origin story they decide to do or if Equestria is going to be flooded with princesses.

So it’s basically a plothole since Flurry was the first alicorn to be born.

Something that I recall Lauren (and others) had mentioned early on: in cartoons such as FIM, certain things are kept deliberately vague until an they can be explored in a particular episode. They do this as not to pin themselves into a corner, and to give themselves wiggle room should they think of a better way to tell the story down the road.
 
I’m sure writers have ideas about the origin of the Royal Sisters, but I can’t help but wonder what—if anything—would change if such a topic were covered in an episode.

Sad that people are still sore about Flurry. Isn’t it possible that Cadence/Twilight/Flurry aren’t the same type of Alicorn as Celestia and Luna, like elves and half-elves?

Equestria’s a country, not the world. For all we know the sisters predate it, weren’t born in it, or think themselves so separate to normalcy that they didn’t even count themselves in.
 
Also one would infer that there’ve been other ponies born from alicons for them to have been so astonished.
