see this is what happens when you only read synopses and assume things rather than actually watching for yourself and seeing what’s actually going on
 
like if I read a synopsis of something I’m not sure of I think “ooh I don’t know if I’m gonna like this” and then I watch it and at the end of it I think “actually that was nice” - but then again, I don’t get triggered by the mere presence of a fictional character that I don’t like

Starlight did sympathize with both parties. She spent the day/night with each princess to figure out why they were so at odds. And once she had that, she tried to confront them both with it without taking a side.

1, it was a good call, Starlight doesn’t mess around. 2, non-biased participant, Twilight is The Worst candidate for such a position and frankly, that should have gone without the mention in the episode.
 
3, this is why I went for a retort and not a refute, people like you just care about being right above all else.

Yeah, it wouldn’t have had Starlight do her one joke and have Twilight a chance to better emotionally connect with her mentor-turned-peer. But no, Vogel and his handlers seem to believe that Glimmer of all ponies is more qualified to handle the dispute than someone who could actually sympathize with both parties.

Exactly. Plus she didn’t go for that option right away, but she felt out the situation before trying to get them to talk things over, and they ended up bickering right off the bat the moment they did talk about it. Starlight acted more on impulse than anything else, that combined with being in the presence of BOTH Royal Sisters while they were at each others necks. It’s like being the referee for a debate between Darkseid and Thanos, do you REALLY wanna be inbetween that?
 
And considering what she went through during the entire episode, Starlight didn’t exactly get off scott-free.

And also, since Twi was in the ep and clearly utterly shocked at Starlight’s methods, she wouldn’t have done what Starlight had done. The ep couldn’t have gone through the same narrative arc it did with Twi at the helm…
