I assumed he was in college, or something at least. Still, that kinda implies Cadance is older then him, and neither are together in this EqG universe regardless of their ages.
 
Overall, it’s safe to assume the EqG ages aren’t the same as their pony counterparts. This goes for every character. The Mane 6 are younger then their ponies, while the CMC are older.

Shouldn’t? Why not? For all I know, an alumnus is somebody who already graduated, which would make Shining 18 at the very least. However, he kind of looks older than that.

Shining, you are just a teenage in EqG. You shouldn’t have children.

Or maybe flurryheart stowawayed in twilight’s backpack before she entered the human world.

He might as well be older than that. All we know is that he did participate in the Games. It’s never said how long ago it was. So an age gap of about 10 years between him and Twilight isn’t entirely out of question.

Shining participated in the Friendship Games four years before Twilight. Meaning, he’s 23, give or take.

Now that’s weapon grade cuteness right there.

Maybe I didn’t phrase that right. I meant that the movie had nothing that would suggest EG!Cadance already being a teacher back when EG!Shining had been a high-schooler.

I don’t remember anything in the movie suggesting that EG!Cadance was already a teacher while EG!Shining was a high-schooler; so for all we know, they can be of the same age, or at least very close. _{That said, poor Cadance! :P}
 
As for Princess Twilight being here, rather than Sci-Twi, I’m gonna assume she was just curious about her niece’s counterpart.

Other points aside, even under circumstances where they wouldn’t be at an age of consent the issue boils down to the parents of at least the mother or something. At least in the case of pressing charges or not since they have the legal authority over their children.
 
While the law may say X in black and white, in reality it can get very gray in this sort of area. Even up to when both or one of the individuals in the relationship or older/younger than 16/18 and yadda yadda yadda.
 
But, in EQD world they’re school alumni so they’d be well over the age of 17 and 18 and legally independent adults who may be or done with college and can do whatever the fuck they want without their parents’ two cents.
