Exactly. It’s always annoying when they make little nods to something and the fandom instantly jumps down everybody else’s throat and calls it official. Can there literally never be any encounter between two female characters in this show without everybody thinking they’re a hardcore lesbian couple?
That may give you license to TREAT them as a couple, but it doesn’t MAKE them one.

Larswon was aware they are being shipped by most of the fandom so he teased it without making them official since hasbro owuld obviously not approve. He did say that their interaction was based on “True Lies” movie, too. Which was played by a married couple.
