Other canonical measurements put them at about the same size. But I fully agree that cat-sized ponies are too cute to give up.
Those deleted scenes are borderline canon fodder anyway. (Yes, I used the correct canon in this case.)
Headcanon will supersede everything as far as creativity and personal taste is concerned. Besides, pony the size of a large housecat? I’ll take it!
