That doesn’t make sense, why would she keep up the “act” when she is by herself and we’ve seen her on her own multiple times.

Now imagine the board meeting between Meghan McCarthy and Michael Vogel (the writer of the episode and and lot others from Transformers Prime and GI Joe renegades).  
Meghan:Michael, don’t you think it’s a little innapropriate for a children cartoon to have a HEROIC character brainwash their friends and enslave their wills?  
Michael: It’s fine! Look at Megatron, he did basically the same thing with Bumblebee and he is redemeed too like Starlight for doing the same.  
MM: Megatron was a villain at the time! One of the darkest I saw by the way. He turned his planet into a graveyard, killed millions of his race, shot a child a laughed about it, and tried genocide three times. I still pluzzed how you pulled a animated show that have space robot hitler and got away with it, but comparing Megatron and Starlight is nonsensical.  
MV: How? Look at the two. Megatron was a nobody with a friend that abandoned him and started a new philosophy that was against his society values, so was Starlight. Megatron tried a power move to gain a leverage in the war and then poisoned his Planet, making him try to escape the dying world, Starlight tried a power move to gain a leverage at the world stage by having a princess under her command, and then tried to escape. Megatron came back to Earth in exile and tried a myriad news ways to destroy the autobots and gain control of the Earth, Starlight did the same with the friendship map. Megatron got possesed by Unicron and got tortured by him, did a redemption move that no one in the fandom believed and went into exile, Stalight saw the destruction of her actions, did a redemption move that no one in the fandom believed and went to live in a castle. And you are saying that they have no similarities?
