Yeah, from how I see it, it looks more on it than the real skin. The little hooves (I guess) seem to come out then fused to from how it’s animated. Also looks like it covers the head.
I think it’s meant to deliberately be ambiguous whether it’s a baby in a silk onesie, or a maggot.
Pretty sure that’s what it’s meant to evoke.
Maybe a cover for their carapace to form?
