Something I just noticed – the foal who says she wants Princess Cadance is running away with a Luna doll instead. That kid can’t even get her princesses straight!

Or the way government gets revenue from this is similar to how state lotteries work, but without payouts.  
Essentially, a sales tax where the retailer gets the smaller percentage instead of the government.  
All of this assuming the princesses are using their image for as much of their income as you imply.

You may have a point. Might also be a joke on how some fans used to complain that all she was, is a “pretty princess,” and didn’t do much else.
 
It’s also funny Twi’ states the merch’ is “unofficial.” (Possibly meaning “bootleg.”)

My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

This is actually a pretty wicked satire, playing off what we’ve seen of Cadance’s character in the show. A lot of her character development came in “Three’s a Crowd”, where she revealed that she was bored with being the Crystal Princess and wanted more exciting adventures like what Twilight had. Cadance wanting to be the “Action Girl” but stuck in the “Pretty Princess” role really is a Take That to Hasbro for coming up with her as a wedding playset figure first, show character second.

I don’t understand these ponies. In fact, I don’t understand what is it that Cadance expected when it was “love” that saved Equestria from the changelings and then it’s what she’s celebrated for when the filly says that. Not to mention that the sun doesn’t grow darker when Celestia is sad.
 
I’d totally buy those miniatures though.

To be fair, Cadence played major role in saving Canterlot and Crystal Empire, assisting personaly on the frontline. In two episodes she did more than Celestia and Luna in all 6 seasons.

Oh, yeah, I get that. The “Pretty Princess” label on her costume definitely came off as negative/dismissive, but this still seems to come off pretty positive, even if it is a bit less action-y than the other three. (The kid really seems to love her new dolls, after all.)

I get what they’re driving at for most of the comic, but is being known for living happily ever after really that bad? They saved Equestria by doing so, and the Crystal Empire would be a frozen wasteland without love based magic, so I’d think it would be seen pretty positively there.
