Season 6 so far has no episodes I particularly dislike, but this and Newbie Dash were probably the weakest ones (ND being a cringe episode and this one just being underwhelming and unfunny.)
Luna’s lyrics are extraordinarily empty and a particularly iconic illustration of the greatest mistake a musical can make: putting a song in whose lyrics may as well just have been spoken. FiM has always had this problem to some extent but sometimes it’s worse than others.
The worst line of the song – “No time for hope when all is strife” – makes absolutely no sense. What does time have to do with it? Isn’t the only time people have hope when there is “strife” to hope against? It’s pretty clear this one was a bit desperate to rhyme.
I know a lot of bronies think the lyrics are just fine, but that makes sense when you consider that the lyrics are technically written for six year old girls.
It wasn’t the best episode we got, but it was good and enjoyable. Also, her lyrics weren’t “dreadful”, they were alright/great(to me).
Most Christmas Tale retellings are feature length films - there isn’t enough time in a 22 minute episode to really flesh out any of the ghosts. With the exception of Marley / Discord who you may have noticed was cut from the episode entirely, Future / Luna suffered the worst because the entire point of her segment was that there wasn’t anything to talk about. Her lyrics got dreadful by the third line, which really ruined what could have been a pretty soul-rending song.
We could also argue the ethics of including death & destruction in a children’s cartoon but what they didn’t do isn’t my concern, it’s what they did do but not well enough.
Actually no. I would have personally sent Hasbro money if they had let me watch Luna chase Starlight into her own grave screaming about how nobody loved her.
