Hah hah, yes Celestia just being bored and left out is very funny. :-)
One thing I can say with absolute certainty is that this episode was way more of a ride than I was expecting. I loved the way that Trixie’s feeling towards Twilight served to complicate and confuse her feelings towards Starlight.

There’s definiteæy some serious tension among the three of them. Twilight’s apprehension about Trixie was evident, which is understandable to a point. On top of that Trixie’s barely concealed resentment of Twilight taking Starlight under her wing, given their history (Trixie tried to humiliate Twilight, and became corrupted by the amulet, vs. Starlight brainwashing ponies and trying to undo history), it’s hard not to see how Trixie would view that as a personal affront. And Starlight is developing serious doubts about how much Twilight actually cares about her on a personal level, and how much of it is due to her being the Princess of Friendship, and thus Starlight being her pet project.

Given how much pain and regret the feelings of resentment and mutual misunderstanding has caused her in the past, I could totally see this as Celestia being conflicted about having faith in her method of teaching. Playing it aloof while internally debating wether to yank Twi by the chest fluff and yelling:; “don’t do the same mistakes I did! Just! Go! Talk to them!” I could totally aboard with that.

On the other hand, imagining her regret coming (probably because Luna said she come too, but, oh, she had to cancel because of an emergency in … the Dreamscape! Yeah, totally. Ssome pony was in trouble and she just had to help! Yes, even during day time!) and being borted out of her mind is a lot funnier. ;)

Not to ruin the atmosphere of the post, but I felt like Celestia was this close to putting her foot down Lesson Zero style this episode. I think she knew that Starlight, Trixie AND Twilight all had important lessons to learn. The kind that they wouldn’t really learn if you just told them. I have no evidence of course but I imagine that Celestia’s chosen teaching style must grate on her sometimes.
