To be fair, it is really impressive magic.
And you just know that if it was a real MMO, there’d be entire raid-builds based around protecting a caster or two that unload the most powerful Explosion magic they can on a boss.
Especially for anything other than end-game raiding.

The traditional magic missile has a cap of five per casting, each of which is nonexplosive and deals about as much damage as a punch from a slightly stronger-than-average person.
Isn’t a magic missile an energy attack that can strike several adjacent targets at once?
It can then logically be assumed that if you went to increase the power, you’d end up with collateral damage as well (then again, I’m not exactly into role-playing games, so I could be wrong).
Sure, it’s magical, and it’s a missile, but it’s hardly a magic missile by the definition that’s usually used now is it?
