It’s a vampire joke. In quite a few of the old tales, they couldn’t enter homes unless invited. Because Homes are sacred places of safety.
But~ they, and some other really nasty critters, could disguise themselves, and trick YOU into letting them in. Sometimes even by ALMOST perfectly taking on the voices and the faces of loved ones, and such.
Oh, and big failure point was usually the eyes. Because they’re supposed to be the windows to the soul, and thus almost impossible to disguise.
