Hello to anyone who reads this thread I am asking for extra help in regards to the edit tag when it comes to posting my edits from my DA. My most recent upload 3537667 ended up receiving the “artist needed” tag and I ended up having a brief conversation regarding it with JP since they were the one who issued me the tag on my post who then recommended me to ask here.

My DA is linked in my bio and I guess the main thing I am curious about is what things I include when sharing my edits here as I am curious on the fact if me posting my edit counts as me also using the artist tag on myself as well? Also to note I am curious on what I put into the sources tab as well as with my last post I just placed the link leading to the original DA post in which the edit was posted to first.

Does the source tab have to include the background I used as well which in this instance would be the Lavender Town background , alongside the png that I incorporated into the edit as well? I only ask this as with my edits I usually just find a nostalgic game from my childhood and use a background from the game itself which then becomes combined with a screencap that I extract from the show material itself however on occasions I do include png’s that people have extracted themselves which are still from the show.

Any help would be much appreciated as I want to approach this in the right way with any future edits I post here that I end up making.

I might be able to help with a couple of answers for you.

The edit tag means the work was created using someone else’s work. For example, you took someone else’s vector, and copy/pasted it onto some other image.

When this happens, you should always credit the original artist by adding their artist:[their name] tag.

You should also tag yourself as editor:[your name], or - if the edit is transformative and stands as its own copyright, as artist:[your name].

Right now all your images here are edits of other people’s work, so you’re the ‘editor’. If you create art yourself from scratch, please tag yourself as ‘artist’ on that image - and let me know so I can add the artist tag to your profile.

That’s because you didn’t tag the artist who created the Twilight Sparkle vector that you used. The tag for the artist who made that Twilight vector is ‘needed’.

Actually, anyone can make tags - you now have a editor:jadetheponyy tag.

I’ve linked the tag to your profile. I use the actual search string rather than the profile name, as the profile can be edited by users which breaks the links.

what things I include when sharing my edits here as

• Always tag the artists whose works you use in your edits.
• It is polite to also include a link to their works in the Source.
• Also tag yourself as editor:jadetheponyy.

Your tag is an ‘editor’ tag. This means that your copyright to your works is derivative - the original artists whose work you used in your edits may request a takedown of any edits you make using their works.

Also to note I am curious on what I put into the sources tab

• The link to your page on DA (you did this correctly)
• A link to each image used in your edit (you need to add this)

If it’s made by another fan artist, please do. You should also credit the artist who made it by adding their artist or editor tag.

I’m not sure what that is? If it’s something like a game or app or something like that, people usually tag the game or the app. That way people who want to see images that used elements from those games can find them.

If it’s just a background from the show, you can ignore it.

Don’t worry :)

I’ve been here for 9 years and every time I upload a new drawing I have to look at OTHER people’s uploads of similar drawings to figure out what tags to add. Like, if your image has Twilight on it, check other uploads of Twilight to see what kinds of tags are on those images.

This helps a lot thank you and I do apologize for the late response as I was sorting some offline things out but I’ve read through this all and it’s put matters into a higher and more in depth explained manner which makes everything so much clearer.

I’ll mostly be uploading archived content I find that have not been posted here yet (With all the relevant tags/sources listed) but this is still highly useful for whenever I do upload a new edit I’ll now know everything that needs to be included so again thank you :)
