It is a common portrayal among a lot of fans to ship that silly white horse with his friends, either Party Favor or (less often) Braeburn.
 
So may I know, what is it with Double (XD) Diamond that made him become gay in many headcanons? Is it because he looks as cute as Braeburn, or because of his light voice?
 
I think his fan portrayal as a gay pony is quite amusing to me. It sometimes makes me laugh!

Granted, since the show’s never commented on or even alluded to Double Diamond being interested in anyone so far, any interpretation is equally a valid guess. Maybe he’s straight, maybe he’s gay. Could be bisexual, even!

The fandom attracts way too many special snow flakes, IMO. Just cause he looks cute doesn’t mean he’s gay. All the characters have to look cute because they’re magical ponies.

Well, I think most show stallions look cute. But ponies like Shining Armor, Sunburst, Braeburn, Troubleshoes, Big Mac, Soarin, and Quibble don’t come across as gay to me.
 
For me, I think it’s a combination of the scarf, his appearance, and his voice. The way he talks doesn’t help either.

He’s young, athletic, cute, has a sporty haircut, I suppose that’s attractive to people who like to draw gay characters.

I honestly don’t think there’s any one specific thing. Nor do I think it’s limited to Double Diamond. I mean, you’d be hard pressed to find a male character on this show that hasn’t been depicted having a same-sex liaison by this point and time. Even Shining Armor and Big Mac, characters we know are canonically interested in mares, have their share of fanart together.  
 
Really, it’s just something people enjoy doing.

Though I don’t think shipping is necessarily sexualization.
 
Drawing/writing about characters cuddling and going on dates is still shipping and still depicts sexual/romantic orientation, without sexualizing the character or depicting them in an NSFW manner.

It’s because he was clearly Starlight Glimmer’s #2, but he wasn’t getting any from her. And he was okay with that. He wasn’t even thinking about it. And he wasn’t noticeably close to Night Glider or Sugar Belle either. Or really anypony else in the village except Starlight.
 
He’s not into fillies. An unattached male glomming onto a “queen bee” character like that without the slightest sexual tension just screams “gay.”

Speaking about “gays in gyms”, have you ever heard of Gachimuchi? That is a well-known video remix genre which has wrestlers in gyms, fried crab rice, boys♂next♂door, and philosophy.
 
Perhaps there should be one where Double Diamond wrestles against his rival Braeburn to earn the title of “boss of this gym”.

I never thought he was gay he just seemed like the type who probably got made fun of all the time in school his name alone would have been latched onto by bullies who would have not only called him “fag” in a derogatory way but would called him “double dork”
