MLP G5 Discussion and Speculation Thread

Y’know, thinking back over it, I think Sunny being a total in-universe pegasister (as is the popular fanon of her) is a bit of a misread of her character. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I think she’s interested in the past, but I think it’s more because her dad was interested in it, and in doing so, she feels closer to him. That’s why she doesn’t constantly think about it - she mostly thinks about it in relation to memories of her dad.

She was more of an idealist, who, upon learning of Equestria’s history, just mostly wanted to bring the races together (plus I also think those ideas she had at a young age, of it being cool to have friends who could fly or levitate things, played a role in her subconscious).

Plus, now she’s an Alicorn, trying to figure out what she needs to do, what is expected of her, and if she can live up to that. I feel like that keeps her busy a lot of the time.

It makes sense Zipp is after the truth of the history, as she was always after the truth, even back in Zephyr Heights.

Forgot to mention possible family members that looked out for Izzy while she was a filly, like hitch’s grandma.

Izzy does in fact keep talking to them while looking up.

Does anyone find it weird that Hitch has no problem doing public speaking but he has stage fright when he’s on camera?

You’re not wrong, but I think Pegasister Sunny is a more interesting interpretation of her character than what she’s doing now.

Zipp and Pipp being the main characters is feeling less like a joke and more like the actual plot. Zipp feels like the only one remotely interested in learning more about magic beyond how “neat” it is.

Everyone has either one or both parents either unmentioned or all but stated to be dead.

Even Sprout only has his mom appears.

I haven’t seen any TYT since episode 24 or so. Are there any episodes since then that are widely accepted as the best and would be worth taking a look at?

Hot Day, Huh? is among my favorites. Nothing crazy, but it’s a fun episode with fun characters.

I can see where you’re coming from with that, but I disagree, I think her learning about her powers, what’s expected of her, what role Alicorns have played in the past, etc. is a plenty interesting angle

What I like is that there are different aspects to her character, and different pairings let them explore these aspects.

She pairs well with Hitch when it comes to community involvement. She pairs very well with Pipp when it comes to being an icon that others look up to. She’s interested in learning about other cultures, and the weird unicorn traditions gives her stuff to do with Izzy. In theory, a shared interest in Equestria’s past is something Zipp and Sunny could bond over. We haven’t seen much of that, but now that Opaline is becoming a more active threat, we can expect to start seeing it.

The already mentioned As the Misty Clears and Sparkle School have received universal acclaim, but another episode that also often gets considered to be one of the best after Starscout Code is Opaline Alone. The song and premise alone are enough to make it worth watching.

Good list, though I do find Take Flight in the Marestream and Ponykind Parade-emonium to be more or less average episodes like a lot of people.

Judging by the covers, they kind of look like fakes.
Also odd that they only put 2 of the Mane 5s VAs on there
